This article examines the methodological challenges faced by auditors when reviewing financial statements prepared in accordance with IFRS, specifically regarding the recognition of embedded derivative instruments (EDIs). The authors systematise the key stages of EDI auditing — identification, assessment of the closely related criterion, and verification of split accounting methodology — illustrating each stage with practical case studies. A numerical example based on convertible bonds demonstrates that an incorrect sequence of component valuation can lead to material misstatements in the financial statements. Practical recommendations for auditors are formulated.
