The Russian Medical Industry: Sanctions, Challenges, and Export Opportunities
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
This article analyzes the adaptation strategies and export potential of the Russian medical industry in the face of sanctions imposed from 2022 to 2024. The relevance of this topic stems from the need to assess the resilience of key sectors of the Russian economy and identify new development vectors in the changed geopolitical environment. Prior to 2022, the Russian market for medical devices and pharmaceuticals was highly dependent on imports, despite the existence of certain production capacities and government initiatives for localization. This paper presents an analysis of the impact of sanctions restrictions on the functioning and development of the Russian medical industry and identifies key achievements in import substitution and domestic production growth. An assessment of the prospects for exports and their reorientation to new geographic markets was conducted; the role of state support in stimulating export activity was examined.
