In the context of increasingly dynamic markets and intensifying global competition, manufacturing companies, particularly in mechanical engineering and installation manufacturing, face the need to adapt to unpredictable changes in requirements, deadlines, and technologies. This article explores the concept of agile engineering as a strategic response to these challenges. It analyzes the etymological and substantive connections between agile engineering and established approaches such as lean manufacturing, lean development, and flexible production. Based on a systematization of existing definitions, a generalized conceptual understanding of agile engineering is formulated, positioned as a management approach embodying the principles of flexibility in engineering sciences. The paper integrates agile engineering into the research field through the prism of the fundamental principles of manufacturing strategies: systems and holistic thinking, goal-oriented action, process organization, and the formation of behavioral models. A comparative analysis of agile engineering is conducted with existing strategies, including integrated product development, concurrent engineering, systems engineering, and project management, highlighting commonalities and innovative aspects. The study's findings demonstrate that agile engineering is a comprehensive strategy aimed at achieving competitive advantage through proactive response to change, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the iterative delivery of commercially significant product increments.
