The article examines the organization and conduct of organizational and managerial practice of students of the direction "State and municipal administration" on the basis of the Surgut City Administration. The purpose of the study is to determine the effectiveness of practice in the formation of professional competencies of future specialists. The paper analyzes the goals and objectives of the practice, the specifics of its implementation in the context of the activities of local governments, as well as the impact of the socio-psychological climate in the team and the availability of resources on the learning process. Special attention is paid to the practical experience of students gained in the course of their work. The data obtained as a result of the sociological survey of students were used to assess the quality of the organization of practice and identify problem areas. Based on the analysis, specific recommendations are formulated aimed at optimizing the internship process and increasing its effectiveness in training qualified specialists for the public and municipal administration system.
