Analysis and assessment of the global forestry industry in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the worsening global geopolitical situation
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
This study reveals the structural imbalances of the global forestry industry through the lens of the neocolonial resource allocation paradigm. The analysis reveals the systemic dependence of commodity-based economies on asymmetric trade relations and the technological hegemony of the metropolises. Empirical evidence indicates a critical level of price dumping in timber exports, reaching 50% for semi-peripheral economies and 80% for neocolonial regimes. Special attention is paid to the strategic transformation of the Russian Federation towards a peripheral status, accompanied by limited access to advanced deep processing technologies and key sales markets. In conclusion, a forecast model for the development of the global forestry industry is presented in the context of new economic and political realities.
