The study is devoted to the analysis of the relationship between income and subjective well–being in the context of the happiness economy. The aim of the work is to identify the nonlinear nature of this dependence in the conditions of Russian regions. The methodology is based on a comparative analysis of international happiness ratings and data from the author's sociological research. A threshold effect has been empirically proven: after reaching an income of 40–70 thousand rubles per family member, its further growth does not lead to a statistically significant increase in happiness. The key non–economic determinants of well-being are identified: institutional trust, freedom of life choices, and personal security. The scientific novelty lies in the verification of the Easterlin paradox based on Russian material and the identification of regional models of well–being formation. The practical significance lies in the development of principles of differentiated socio–economic policy, taking into account the stages of regional development.
