The article is devoted to developing a methodology for assessing the level of economic security in the machine-building industry, taking into account its specific challenges: dependence on skilled personnel, high requirements for technological level, and long production cycles. Based on an analysis of existing approaches, the authors propose a systematic toolkit focused on three key components of security: personnel, technical-technological (innovative), and financial-market. For each component, a system of specific indicators is developed (e.g., the share of highly qualified personnel, the wear coefficient of the active part of fixed assets, the inventory coverage ratio with own working capital) with justification for industry benchmarks. The obtained values are converted into a binary scoring system. The integral indicator, calculated as the arithmetic mean of the scores, allows the industry's security state to be classified into one of three levels: sufficient, satisfactory (attention zone), or insufficient (critical). The proposed methodology has a diagnostic nature, balances universality and industry specifics, and can be adapted to various machine-building sub-sectors. Its application allows not only for an overall assessment but also for identifying specific problem areas for making targeted management decisions.
