The relevance of the study is due to the increasing turbulence of the external environment, from global climate challenges and regulatory requirements in the field of ESG to accelerating digital transformation and changing consumer preferences. Under these conditions, sustainable development ceases to be a marketing trend and becomes a key factor in the long-term competitiveness of industrial enterprises. This is especially true for Russian companies that are forced to adapt to new sanctions, technological and environmental realities. The purpose of the study is to identify the synergetic links between sustainable development strategies and increasing the competitiveness of industrial enterprises in the context of the transformation of the business environment, as well as updating practical cases based on current data from 2021. The research uses methods of system analysis, comparative analysis, generalization of corporate governance practices, as well as analysis of official reports of companies and international organizations. Data on the implementation of quality management systems, environmental management and occupational safety are used on the example of PJSC Severstal, taking into account current investments and strategic initiatives in 2021-2024. The results of the study include: an updated model for integrating ESG principles into a competitiveness strategy, quantitative indicators of the effectiveness of environmental and social investments, as well as justification for the need for an integrated approach to sustainable development management through certified management systems. In conclusion, it is emphasized that the synergy between economic, environmental and social sustainability forms a stable competitive position, reduces risks and increases resource efficiency. Such mechanisms are especially important in the context of import substitution and technological self-sufficiency typical of the Russian economy in the 2020s.
