The article examines the current state of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Republic of Belarus and their impact on national economic development amid structural transformations and external economic constraints. The purpose of the study is to identify key trends in SME functioning, assess their contribution to the country’s macroeconomic indicators, and determine the factors limiting further sectoral development. Based on official statistical data for 2023–2024, a comparative analysis was conducted of the dynamics of GDP, gross value added, employment, revenue, investment, and the sectoral and regional structure of SMEs. The results demonstrate a steady increase in the contribution of SMEs to GDP and GVA, an expansion of employment, and rising investment activity, confirming their growing role in ensuring macroeconomic stability. At the same time, several risks were identified, including a decline in the number of individual entrepreneurs, a decrease in the SME share of exports, and a high dependence on imported resources. The study concludes that strengthening institutional support, accelerating business digitalization, and enhancing export potential are essential for improving the sector’s competitiveness.
