This article contributes to the development of the literature on corporate governance and ESG by providing an in-depth review and a comprehensive analysis of existing results. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive literature analysis and study the relationship between the characteristics of corporate governance and the involvement of companies in environmental, social and managerial activities (ESG). Based on the literature studied, the article suggests the following thematic areas: characteristics of the board of directors, ownership structure and their impact on the company's participation in ESG activities; characteristics of the CEO and their impact on the company's participation in ESG activities; corporate governance and ESG as sources of transparency and legitimacy; internal support for the company's participation in ESG activities; gender diversity and the company's participation in ESG activities.
