Contemporary design in the new normal of a VUCA world
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
This paper examines posthumanism as a theory that arose in direct dependence on human actions, responsible for ongoing changes in the world, such as the man-made environmental crisis. Design is defined as a marginal phenomenon existing between spiritual and material culture. As an avant-garde buffer zone, design, as a harmonizing component, utilizes a resource—the product of its activity—that changes and can be presented as a canon in a contradictory situation.Existing between two cultures, design remains invariably anthropocentric, regardless of changing environmental conditions. This article presents reflections on how changes are reflected in design culture and predicts its response to the current situation. A compensatory model for design's paradigm shift and its aspirations in the emerging system of human-technology relationships are examined.
