Analysis of current features and regional aspects of the forestry system in Eastern Russia

Abstract:
The article provides a comparative analysis of the determinants of regional differentiation in the forestry sector of the Russian Federation, using the example of the constituent entities of the Far Eastern Federal District. The study is based on official statistical data from Rosstat for the years 2021–2024, and employs various research methods, with a focus on comparative geographical analysis. The article assesses the situation in the forestry sector of eleven constituent entities within the same macroregion. The study explores the environmental, economic, and social factors that contribute to inequality. The main indicators at the regional level are considered (forest resources, reforestation, and forest fires on forest fund lands). As a result, a high differentiation was established in terms of the total wood stock, with the main influence on this indicator coming from the forest cover of the territory and the area of forest fund lands on which forests are located. There is a correlation between the number of forest fires and the amount of restored forests.
