Due to Russia's active transition to the digital economy, it has become necessary to use a new form of money in calculations. In this article, the author discusses the issue of introducing a new form of money, such as digital currency. The features of the digital currency are revealed, and a list of indicators characterizing its positive aspects is provided. The negative aspects that may arise from the introduction of a new form of currency are also given. The author considers the introduction of the digital ruble into monetary circulation in the context of a historically necessary fact in connection with technological progress, depending on the prevailing social formation. The proof of this fact is the evolutionary development of money from commodity money to digital money. It should be noted that against the background of the economic pressure of the West on Russia, new ways of ensuring the economic security of the state are extremely important.
