As a result of the study of the structure of the external environment of the housing construction sphere, it was established that the development of this area is inextricably linked with the increase in its investment activity. The work classifies macro- and microeconomic factors of the housing construction sphere of the Donetsk People's Republic. The strengths and weaknesses of the development of this area are identified by the main potential groups: natural resource potential, economic potential, social development and environmental status. As a result of the study of the external environment, the opportunities and threats of the housing construction sphere of the Republic were determined. The assessment of the most significant factors in the development of housing construction made it possible to form a SWOT analysis matrix taking into account the most significant strengths, weaknesses of each of the components of the development of the housing construction sphere, opportunities and threats, as a result of which the main strategic directions for the development of the housing construction sphere are defined: use of the natural resource potential of the Republic; renewal of production assets of housing construction entities; creation of an investment-attractive climate by forming a partnership alliance.
