The study examines the innovation potential of the regions of the Central Federal District (CFD), on the basis of which the dynamics and distribution of the level of innovation activity in the regions are analyzed, as well as groups of regions with a similar level of innovation development are identified. The purpose of the work is to identify the features of the dynamics of innovation activity in the subjects of the Central Federal District, highlight negative aspects and assess the prospects for the development of innovation and investment activities in these regions. An integrated approach was applied, including the calculation of key parameters of innovation and investment activities based on official statistical data for 2024-2025. The study analyzed the regions of the Central Federal District in terms of innovation activity, identifying four groups: flagships of innovative development, regional drivers of innovation, promising subjects and lagging regions. The heterogeneity of innovative development with the dynamic restructuring of the composition of groups in a certain period is revealed. A differentiated regional policy is proposed aimed at supporting leaders and stimulating innovation in less developed regions to increase the overall competitiveness of the district.
