Development trends and strengths of competition in the greenhouse vegetable market in Russia and the Saratov region
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
This article examines the competitiveness of Russian greenhouse vegetable growing enterprises. The structural differentiation of enterprises in the industry is increasing. The relevance of this issue is due to the emerging gap between high-tech systems focused on automated climate control systems, hydroponics, and precision farming systems, and small farms using traditional methods, amid rapid technological progress and the digitalization of production processes. Key factors limiting the competitiveness of greenhouse vegetable growing enterprises include rising energy prices, a shortage of qualified personnel, limited working capital, and intense competition from large greenhouse agricultural holdings. This article analyzes regional differentiation (based on the Saratov, Belgorod, Voronezh, and Moscow regions). A comparative assessment of the competitiveness of greenhouse vegetable growing enterprises (for these regions) is also provided. SWOT and PEST analyses of greenhouse vegetable farming enterprises in the Saratov Region were conducted. It was concluded that the external environment for greenhouse vegetable farming enterprises in the Saratov Region offers high potential for competitive growth, provided they actively implement innovations and utilize government support measures rationally. Political and technological factors, which facilitate industry modernization, exert the greatest positive influence, while economic and social factors pose constraints related to rising costs and human resource shortages.
