The article examines the conditions for the development of the consumer market in the regions from the point of view of the concept of socio-economic security. The analysis of consumer price indices for goods and services, as well as cost indicators of a fixed set of consumer goods and services at the level of the federal districts of the Russian Federation for a five-year period is carried out. The main functions and the place of the consumer market in the system of socio-economic security of the regions are formulated. The mechanisms of ensuring the security of the consumer market are proposed in the form of a set of measures for regional authorities in order to neutralize threats to the socio-economic security of the consumer market. The main conclusions are that regional development should be aimed at ensuring the availability and quality of goods for the population, creating favorable business conditions and reducing critical dependence on external supplies.
