History and theory of politics in an era of change: developing the competencies of contemporary political scientists
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
This article analyzes the role of historical and theoretical disciplines in the training of political scientists in the context of rapid political and technological transformations. Based on a literature review, a comparative analysis of curricula and methods, and a case study of teaching practices, methodological innovations and the contribution of the instructor as a mentor are examined. Particular attention is paid to how knowledge of the history of political doctrines and political theory helps critically understand the political landscape, the transformation of government institutions, and international crises. It is shown that a solid historical and theoretical foundation, combined with practice-oriented methods and digital literacy, enhances graduates' analytical flexibility, their ability to conduct interdisciplinary research, and their effective professional performance in government, international, and non-governmental organizations. The article concludes with specific recommendations for improving the educational programs of political science students: strengthening the historical and theoretical component, integrating applied and digital skills, expanding internships and international collaboration, and strengthening ties with regional policy practice. This article is intended for faculty, students, and specialists interested in developing political science education.
