Abstract:
In the context of growing instability in the global economy, the intensification of socio-economic and environmental challenges, and the acceleration of technological change, the issue of ensuring sustainable development has acquired particular relevance and strategic importance. One of the key factors capable of ensuring balanced economic, social, and environmental development is digital transformation, understood not merely as the implementation of individual digital technologies, but as a comprehensive process of profound changes in management models, production systems, resource allocation, and social interactions. The article analyzes digital transformation as a systemic driver of sustainable development, creating new opportunities to enhance economic efficiency, increase labor productivity, optimize the use of natural resources, and improve the quality of life. The study reveals the essence of digital transformation and substantiates its fundamental difference from automation and digitalization processes, which are limited to the introduction of specific technical solutions. Particular attention is paid to the impact of key digital technologies — artificial intelligence, big data, cloud and platform solutions, the Internet of Things, and digital services — on the formation of sustainable socio-economic systems. The mechanisms through which digital transformation contributes to increased transparency and efficiency of governance, the development of innovative business models, the reduction of transaction costs, and the strengthening of organizational and institutional adaptability to external challenges are examined. Significant attention is devoted to the social dimension of sustainable development, including the impact of digital transformation on human capital development, expanded access to education, healthcare, and social services, the emergence of new forms of employment, and labor market transformation. The article analyzes risks associated with digital inequality, social polarization, rising qualification requirements, and the need to adapt educational systems to the conditions of the digital economy. The environmental potential of digital technologies is also considered, particularly in terms of improving natural resource management, reducing environmental impact, developing smart infrastructures, and supporting the transition to a green economy model. The article emphasizes the crucial role of the state and institutional environment in managing digital transformation processes and aligning them with sustainable development goals. Issues related to the formation of regulatory frameworks, the development of digital infrastructure, support for innovation, and the minimization of technological and socio-economic risks are discussed. It is concluded that digital transformation can serve as a sustainable driver of development only under a comprehensive and systemic approach that ensures coordination of economic, social, and environmental objectives, human capital development, and the establishment of a responsible model of digital growth.
