Small and medium-sized enterprises face resource constraints, which are traditionally considered a barrier to the introduction of modern management innovations, including human-centered technologies. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the availability of such technologies for small and medium–sized enterprises through the author's principle of sufficiency. The methodological basis was a comparative analysis of traditional and personnel management tools adapted to modern conditions. It is proved that the replacement of expensive elements of management systems with functionally equivalent available tools makes it possible to maintain the effect of employee subjectivity without increasing the financial burden on the enterprise. The result of the implementation of the principle is the transformation of the employee's role from a passive performer to an active participant in production activities. The findings of the study can be used to develop strategies for the sustainable development of small and medium-sized enterprises in conditions of economic instability.
