Public debt is an important aspect of the state financial policy, which in modern conditions performs an anti-crisis function. The stability of development and investment climate in the country as a whole and the welfare of its population depend on how effective the state policy on the repayment of public debt is. The article assesses the current state of the Russian public debt. The research of trends in the development of public debt of the Russian Federation includes the analysis of its current state, identification of problems of state management of the country's debt obligations, as well as identification of promising directions of its development in Russia in the interests of the state, organizations and population.
