At present, due to economic instability and sanctions pressure, the state management of the country's debt obligations has faced new risks and threats. The state authorities face the task of effective regulation of public debt, search for possible ways to reduce its size and service costs. The problem of public debt remains relevant for the Russian Federation. The article assesses the current state of the Russian public external and internal debt. It analyzes the current state, identifies current management problems, and identifies promising directions of its development in Russia at the present stage.
