Digital financial practices of students: the relationship between information sources and the nature of fintech service use (using an agricultural university as an example)

Abstract:
The rapid adoption of digital technologies in the financial sector is inevitably changing traditional patterns of financial interaction, especially among young people. Although students, as the most technologically savvy group, are the primary users of new services, their underlying financial attitudes and the resulting vulnerabilities remain an area requiring close academic study. This article presents the results of an empirical study of the digital financial behavior of first-year students at an agricultural university. Based on questionnaire data (N=276), the prevalence of various categories of online financial transactions—from basic payments to complex investment and credit instruments—is analyzed. The central focus is testing the hypothesis that there is a relationship between preferred channels for obtaining financial information and the intensity of use of advanced digital financial products. The results confirm the differentiation of behavioral patterns depending on the source of information. It is concluded that sources associated with expert information correlate with a more conscious and strategic use of financial technologies. The findings substantiate the need to integrate targeted educational modules on digital financial literacy into university curricula.
