The article is devoted to the urgent problem of the purposeful formation of soft skills ("flexible" skills) among students of secondary specialized educational institutions (SPE) in the context of mathematical education. It is proved that modern professional standards require graduates to have not only subject knowledge, but also supra-professional competencies such as communication, critical thinking, teamwork, creativity and self-organization. The article argues that the traditional lecture-seminar model of teaching mathematics often does not provide sufficient development of these skills. The paper presents a theoretical justification and experimental verification of the effectiveness of integrating project activities into mathematical disciplines as an innovative pedagogical tool. To test the hypothesis, a pedagogical experiment was conducted at the Moscow University of Synergy with the participation of 64 students divided into control and experimental groups. The methods of questioning, peer review, and statistical data processing (Mann-Whitney U-test, Wilcoxon T-test) were used. The results of the study demonstrated a statistically significant increase in the level of formation of key soft skills among students of the experimental group who were actively involved in project activities, compared with the control group. The data obtained confirm that mathematical education, focused on project work, is transformed into a powerful developing environment for the formation of critical competencies. The results of the work can be used to modernize the curricula of technical and natural science areas of vocational training.
