Social Pedagogy and Psychology as the Foundation of Professional Activity in Social Work

Abstract (English):
Social pedagogy and psychology form the theoretical and methodological foundation of professional activity in social work, providing a holistic understanding of the individual in their social, cultural, and psychological context. This article explores how the integration of pedagogical and psychological knowledge enables social workers to develop effective strategies for support, prevention, and rehabilitation for various vulnerable groups—from children and adolescents to the elderly and individuals with disabilities. Particular attention is paid to key components such as empathy, caring pedagogy, reflexivity, communicative competence, and the ethics of interaction. It is emphasized that without a deep understanding of the mechanisms of social development, personal dynamics, and educational needs of the client, social work risks being reduced to the formal performance of administrative functions. Thus, social pedagogy and psychology not only complement professional training but also form the humanistic foundation of a profession focused on restoring dignity, autonomy, and social inclusion.
